Summary:

This concept project is a training solution that provides a cohesive training course for certification and recertification over officer safety to Parole and Probation Officers anywhere and at any time in the state of Texas.

Challenge:

Creating a cohesive training that could be used by Probation and Parole Officers which are two different entities within the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.

Differentiate in:

  • Rules and Regulations

  • Responsibilities

  • Safety Protocols

  • Office and Field Procedures

Action:

To create this course I met with SME's from both entities to discuss needs and expectations for this training. Then, I needed to able to look at the current instructor-led trainings held by both Probation and Parole Trainers to look for commonalities between the groups. An outline was provided to the SME's as a visual of how the course would be structured. Once approved by the SMEs; a larger team of both Probation and Parole Officers discussed specific areas that needed attention for this training to become effective based on the current needs of Parole and Probation officers.

After changes and additions were made, I created the storyboard using the objectives discussed and the approved outline. I was able to overcome the challenge by creating the course with multiple modules that could be completed individually or in sequential order depending on the needs of the entities and it allowed for the creation of modules that were targeted only to a specific group and their needs.

Results:

As a result, both Parole and Probation were able to get their required training that was flexible to their time, location, and needs.

To evaluate the success of the course formal and summative assessments are implemented throughout the different modules to gauge their level of understanding and a survey will be given at the end of the course to identify additional areas of improvement.
